Hey Reality

This sign broke perfectly!

Today I am the mother of a seven year old.  Tomorrow that all changes.  I have found in recent years that my happiness and the happiness of my birthday girl are an inverse proportion.  She is thrilled to be turning eight, I need 800mg of Motrin and a couple long necks to digest the fact that I am going to be the mother of an eight year old.  Stranger yet, some of my girlfriends have teenagers at my age!  I know, shut the front door right?

When I turned eight I had my special birthday party.  It is the only one I had outside of my parents' house.  We went to the roller rink and Lindsay Chicco got me my favorite present.  It was white t-shirt with 3/4 red raglan sleeves.  It had a glittery rainbow on the front and my name on the back.  It was totally different from anything I had in my closet and I wore it as first choice out of the laundry.  I don't know how much it cost, but I'm sure it cost way less than a $200 Nintendo DS or a $400 I-pod touch...which are the two choices Eva Rose gave me.  Suffice to say, Eva's birthday shopping did not involve a ticket price equal to a car payment.

For those of you who are unaware, I like to make cakes and one night I couldn't sleep so I made a cake website.  You can view it at www.kellythecakelady.com   My kids don't ask for normal cakes.  Last year Eva got two cakes, one for her real birthday which we celebrated in America with her Nana and Papa and an unbirthday cake with her friends in Italy.  I do believe that may have ruined the previously established one cake per birthday president.  Eva is very food motivated and loves sugar. So this year she asked to have a cake made only out of marshmallows.  We tweaked it a bit and now she is requesting a marshmallow shaped cake.  When I am away from my cake supplies, I keep my designs super simple, but that's no reason to settle for simple flavor.  Naturally, a marshmallow shaped cake should be filled with Smores flavors.  The plan is a spice cake layered with chocolate gnash and marshmallow filling, covered in gnash, butter cream icing, and finally the marshmallow fondant I made yesterday.
Happy Birthday Rutabaga!  We love you madly.  You have made the last eight years very interesting.  I hope I found a present for you that you will enjoy as much as my rainbow shirt - if that is possible.
